  • Linguistic - Word Smart - learn through reading, writing and talking about things
  • Logical - Number Smart - learn through data, problem solving, and number activities
  • Interpersonal - People Smart - learn from interacting with others - like team games - comfortable sharing
  • Intrapersonal - Self Smart - learn through personal reflection - you understand your strengths and weaknesses - you may keep a diary/journal
  • Musical - Music Smart - learn through sound - particularly music - enjoy and understand the patterns and tone qualities of music
  • Visual/Spatial - Picture Smart - learn through seeing - enjoy visual art - comfortable with picture activities like map reading, navigating mazes and graphs
  • Naturalistic - Nature Smart - learn through exploring plants and animals

Remember - each of us have abilities across the spectrum - some may be more highly developed - perhaps because our preferences were nurtured.
If you aren't sure of your preferences - take an MI inventory - the ones listed below were designed for students but will certainly work for adults.

Once you determine your preferences consider how your teaching may be affected. If you don't score high on Kinesthetic, how will you reach the students who learn primarily through moving?
